Be aware that plastic sleeving can degrade depending on how long the
instruments will be in the SFP and the proximity to the fuel. For short term
exposure, this is generally not an issue.

I've seen both good application of sleeving and some bad (Leaks)

Betsy,

As Mike stated anything that goes into our SFP that needs to be protected from
becoming contaminated has a sacrificial outer protective cover.

Betsy,

I would design the detector in a waterproof housing that would be left at the
site or disposed of. Simple strippable coatings have been used with some
success as well as plastic sleeving. Are you working with companies that
design and market underwater detectors? I'm assuming radiation detectors or
are these thermocouple/level indicators...?

Good luck,

Mike

Hi,
I am supporting researchers who are placing instrumentation in spent fuel pools
world-wide. We would like them returned to us with as little contamination as
possible. What does your plant do to reduce contamination in items placed in
the spent fuel pool?
Any advice is appreciated!
