Braidwood Response: The in plant ventilation charcoal filters do not absorb
enough radioactive gasses to have any dose rates. We are abandoning our system
for that reason. When we have had failed fuel (last time 2006) we used
localized HEPA with charcoal and could see very high dose rates. If not
changed out frequently enough they have gotten to 300-500 mrem/hr. But the in
plant system charcoal never sees anything.

Subject: Powernet: OE Related to Containment Air Filter Dose Rates

Hello,

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking the following information and any
related input from operating plants:

1.) What on-contact dose rates are typically exhibited by containment air
filters at your plant or site?

2.) Does your plant or site have a dose rate requirement for filter change-out,
or are filters changed out due to other requirements or criteria (such as DP)?

3.) Does your plant or site have any historical dose rate measurement
information you would be willing to share (for example, dose rate measurements
from the filter during cycles with fuel failure)?

Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Aaron Wilmot, MS, CHP
