Subject: Powernet: RE: booster pump for RCS cleanup

Cheryl,

At Braidwood, our letdown booster pump was permanently installed in the late
90s. Once the final RCP is shutdown we isolate our RC loops (loop stop
isolation valves) and turn on the letdown booster pump. Typical flow rate on
RCS is about 120 gpm. During forced oxidation we increase to about 140-145
gpm. However, when the booster pump is engaged we can increase flow to 165-170
gpm. We also has new relief valves installed in the system.

Advantages of course is volume of water cleaned up during the post peroxide
clean up window. In a 24-hr window we clean up about 4,000 gallons verses
3,400 gallons. Over 72-hours 1,800 gallons. I know it doesn’t sound like much
but that can be about 16% improvement.

Does anyone install a booster pump to increase cleanup flow rate after peroxide
addition?
