1. Comanche Peak plans to implement the referenced EPRI Report. Had to
analyze H-3 concentrations over the past couple of years for primary RCS and
secondary cooling to understand oils that could be determined to have
concentrations of H-3 (and C-14) below the operational state of the art limit.
Evaluating waste streams that are documented for Part 61 requirements can help
with determining release of other hard to detects such as Ni-63 and Fe-55. Very
useful to develop flow diagram specific to your plant(s) as the EPRI Report
diagram may have unusuable/confusing steps.

2. Currently revising procedures.

3. Plan to free release eligible waste oil once established by procedures.

Subject: [Powernet] Question about the release of waste oil using EPRI 300214471

EXTERNAL EMAIL

1. Has your facility implemented or are there plans do implement EPRI
300214471, Methodology for the evaluation of Used Oil for Radiological
Contamination: Focusing on Hard-to-Detect Radionuclides, Tritium, and
Carbon-14?

2. Do you have a process that is different from that used in the EPRI
report for releasing waste oil or oil samples; ie one that accounts for H-3 and
C-14?

3. Do you free release waste oil?
