The powerpc process is derailed because of a lack of hardware. A lot
of people, at the very least Guy Shaw and Tom Riddle at Sun Labs, have
invest massive piles of work into this port project and all of it is
very specific to hardware that no longer exists. The hardware was the
Genesis Open Desktop. Commonly referred to as the ODW. The next thing
that comes even close is the EFIKA which has almost the exact same
firmware but a totally different bunch of devices.

In fact, this process may never get off the ground unless we switch to
POWER6 based gear and start over with $1M in R&D money as well as IBM
engineers to work within this community project.
