BTW, www.opensparc.net does ship an emulator that would be good enough.
But for sun4v, rather than for ppc. It includes src code for OpenBoot, 
including a number of Suns proprietary modifications. Is capable of 
booting into the Solaris 10 sparcv9 kernel. Is under GPL.
In theory it should be possible to port it to emulate certain PowerPC 
platforms. But that port would probably be way more expensive, than the 
actual Polaris port alltogether   :-)

So I dont currently see a solution.
