Thats strange. Using 'xset dpms force off' DID turn the backlight
too? Were you using binary fglrx or open radeon driver and does it
matter at all? This seems to be a bug or maybe a misconfiguration of
Xorg here.

Indeed you're right, I just thought that it's just the way xset does
it's job and it's not its bug. I'll have to report it and try the
scripting stuff tommorow too. Thanks
