Dear ISSM Koordinator via Ketua PPI Belgia,

Saya Yulheri Abas sekarang sedang menyelesaikan Program Ph.D bidang Plant 
Biotechnology di Institute of Milecular Biology and Biotechnology, Vrije 
Universiteit Brussells, tertarik untuk berpartisipasi pada meeting ISSN di 
Delft Nedherland. Seandainya diperkenankan kami ingin mepresentasikan Anext 
thesis kami "Inhibition of genes involved in reproductive development of teak 
(kayu jati) is a way to increase wood production". 

Jati adalah komoditi unggulan Indonesia, pertumbuhannya sangat lambat (masak 
tebang optimal 80 tahun), diperkirakan setiap tahun 20% energy pertumbuhan 
dihabiskan untuk reprudutif development. Energy yang cukup besar ini  kalau 
bisa dihambat tentunya akan memicu pertumbuhan masa kayu sehingga panen jati 
bisa diturunkan dari umur 60 tahun (kebijaksanaan panen saat ini) menjadi 40 
tahunan dengan hasil masa kayu yang sama. Salah satu gene yang bisa 
dimamfaatkan adalah gene dari bakteri Dipteri yang mengexpresi toxic protein 
yang mampu menggugurkan bakal bunga sehingga jati rekayasa tidak akan pernah 
berbunga dan energy pertumbuhan akan beralih untuk pertumbuhan batang kayu. 
Dengan adanya kenaikan produksi jati 20% pertahun tentunya devisa dari export 
sektor kehutanan akan bertambah dan sekaligus akan meningkatkan penyerapan 
tenaga kerja tanpa menambah   perluasan kawasan hutan peruduksi.

Demikian kiranya seandainya kami masih bisa mendaftar tentunya kami akan segera 
mengirim abstrac sesegera mungkin.
