Empowering India, IIT way TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ MONDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2004 12:00:01 AM ] The Capital is soon going to host the largest congregation of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumni ever held in one country, in one city and with one purpose. Over 3,000 IITians from across the world will be attending the event - PAN IIT 2004 Conference and Exhibitions 'IITians: Empowering India.' The conclave aims to highlight and build on the role played by IITians in building the future of India.
The 36-hour event will be held at Pragati Maidan (Hall No. 7) and would be spread over two days, December 24 and 25, 2004. More than 15 business sessions on a wide range of topics including harnessing Indian brain power and intellectual property rights, biotechnology, automotive sector, business process outsourcing, defence and space research, roads and transportation, water and sanitation, rural development and environment under the sub-themes of Global competitiveness and Towards building a better nation will be held on the occasion. Besides these sessions, the exhibitions will showcase the products and services of IITian entrepreneurs and their substantial contribution to technology, R&D and in visualising a powerful India for the future. Some of the eminent personalities, from around the globe, who have confirmed their participation include Saurabh Shrivastava, chairman, XANSA, B Muthuraman, CEO, Tata Steel, Viji Raghunathan, vice president, Union Bank of California, USA, Jeet S Bindra, president, ChevronTexaco Global Refining, Subir Raha chairman, ONGC, Hari Bhartia, CEO, Jubliant Organosys, and Jairam Ramesh, member of Parliament and economic advisor, Indian National Congress, to name some. The directors of all seven IITs alongwith over 200 professors are moreover, expected to attend this event. The PanIIT organisation was formed as an umbrella organisation to evolve a brand that would provide strong fraternity between all IIT alumni.
