Prince Sultan holds talks with Singapore Deputy Prime
Minister Professor Shanmugam Jayakumar in Riyadh on Tuesday. (SPA)

RIYADH, 4 May 2005 - Singapore Deputy Prime Minister
Professor Shanmugam Jayakumar told Saudi businessmen that Singapore is
targeting Saudi students and businessmen - the former for higher education and
the latter for investing in viable ventures.

Professor Jayakumar made the announcement during a meeting
with Saudi businessmen at a luncheon hosted by Abdul Rahman Al-Jeraisy,
president of the Saudi Council of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI).

Professor Jayakumar, who is leading a 40-member delegation to
the capital, paid a courtesy call on Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister
of defense and aviation, yesterday and also held talks with Higher Education
Minister Dr. Khaled Al-Anqari, Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie, Commerce
Minister Dr. Hashim Al-Yamani, Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority
Governor Amr Dabbagh and Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) Governor Hamad
Al-Sayari.

Underlining the strong bilateral relations between the two
countries, Professor Jayakumar said Saudi students and businessmen coming to
Singapore will enhance already good relations.

Al-Jeraisy said the meeting was aimed at enhancing economic
and investment cooperation between the two countries. "The Kingdom is an
attractive destination for foreign investors who will get good returns for
their capital invested in Saudi Arabia," Al-Jeraisy added.

The total trade between the two countries reached nearly 10
billion Singapore dollars in 2004; 90 percent of the Saudi exports were
petroleum and petrochemical products. Singapore's exports to the Kingdom
included food items and engineering equipment.

Representatives from the National University of Singapore
(NUS) and Anglo-Chinese School (International) briefed the businessmen on
educational facilities available for Saudi students in Singapore.

Assistant Director of Singapore Education, John Conceicao,
told Arab News that 66,000 overseas students are currently studying in
educational institutions in the country.

"Exchange of educational programs could bridge the gap
between the Kingdom and Singapore," he said and pointed out that his country
can offer long-term, short-term and corporate educational courses for Saudi
students in several fields of studies.

"NUS has 13 faculties covering the major disciplines and has
an enrollment of more than 22,000 undergraduates and 8,000 graduates, of whom
20 percent are foreign students."

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is stepping up its efforts
this year to attract more visitors from the Middle East to the "Great Singapore
Sale," the eight-week festival which runs from May 27 to July 24, 2005.

The Middle East has been identified as one of the key
emerging markets for tourism to Singapore. As a special incentive to attract
tourists from these countries, the STB will be developing customized travel
packages with local travel agents, which include flights, accommodation and
incentives.

The Great Singapore Sale has become a major tourist
attraction within Asia, attracting about 1.5 million visitors to Singapore in
June and July last year.
