This is sad but kinda funny in a way,... what the heck are they gonna do with
those implants? Whoever put those breast implants there must know something
that we don't! Un-freakin'-believable!!!
Australian medical aid to quake-ravaged Indonesia included breast implants
SYDNEY (AFP): A health specialist complained on Thursday that medical aid sent
by Australia to victims of the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia
included breast implants and other "inappropriate" goods.
Jan Rice said on ABC radio that she traveled to the worst-hit province of Banda
Aceh with a government AusAID delegation three months after the disaster and
found the donated implants in a store room.
Rice, a specialist in wound care from Monash University's Victoria College of
Pharmacy in Melbourne, said she also found drugs that were out of date and
other useless supplies.
"I found a box with breast implants in it and drugs out of date," she said.
Australia led the world in both government and private donations following the
Boxing Day quake and tsunami, which left more than 128,000 people dead in Aceh
province and another 450,000 homeless.
But Rice said the donated medical supplies had overwhelmed local hospitals by
their sheer volume.
She found ceiling-to-floor boxes of unused aid in a storeroom at the main
hospital in Banda Aceh, all "in various states of disrepair because the
humidity's 120 percent and cardboard obviously softens'.
"We had various equipment that was not complete so there were parts missing so
that couldn't be used," she said.
Other "fairly intricate" intensive care equipment was also delivered, "but they
didn't have an intensive care unit and they didn't have intensive care-trained
staff." (*)
