REFLECTION: Why RI not sending humatarian team to Darfur? There are about 2.000.000 muslim refugees in Darfur living in terrible poor conditions in the desert. Is it because their opressor has the same religion as the mayority of RI?
http://www.antara.co.id/en/seenws/?id=18008 RI's humanitarian team to leave for Syria Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A team consisting of 10 volunteers will leave for Syria on Monday (Aug. 14) to deliver humanitarian aid for Lebanese and Palestinians who have been under Israeli brutal attacks. The volunteers would include four Indonesian legislators, according to Suripto, chairman of the Indonesian Humanitarian Committee concurrently Chairman of the National Committee for Palestinian People, here on Thursday. Of the four legislators, three are from the Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS) and one from Golkar Party. The rest of the team`s members are from the Indonesian Red Crescent Society and Non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda received them at the foreign ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday to discuss about their humanitarian mission for Lebanon and Palestine. "We will deliver the aid but also survey what else is urgently needed by the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples," Suripto, a PKS legislator and member of the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission I in charge of foreign affairs, said. The four legislators will stay in Syria until August 20, while the other volunteers especially doctors and paramedics will stay longer in the conflict area. A number of anti-Israeli rallies have been staged in many Indonesian cities in protest of the Israeli military aggression on Palestine and Lebanon. Over 900 Lebanese people, mostly women and children under 13 years old, were killed by the Israeli bombs and missiles. Hundreds of Indonesians have expressed their wish to go to the conflict areas to help the Lebanese and Palestinians against Israel. Some of them have even called for a Jihad (holy war) against Israel and its allies. Baharudin Nahris, chairman of West Kalimantan`s "State Defense Volunteers" (RBN), said recently the newly-formed "Jihad Bombers Force" (PBJ) had registered a total of 3,117 people as Jihad Bomb fighters who are ready to fight in Lebanon and Palestine against Israel. Some 72 of the volunteers are trained fighters who had joined war trainings in Afghanistan, Moro (the Philippines) and Palestine, he said. The PBJ also asked the Indonesian government to return the United States` assistance worth US$750,000 for a counter-terrorism program in Indonesia.
