Russia may develop future airliner jointly with EADS MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax-AVN) - **Russia* will most definitely develop a future passenger airliner either independently or jointly with the European Airbus Consortium, UAC head Alexei Fyodorov told Interfax-AVN. "We are now holding negotiations with EADS, which includes Airbus, on joint development of an airliner to replace the A320 airbus," Fyodorov said. Russia and Airbus need new short-to-medium-range aircraft to replace A320 and Tu-154s. It is important to develop an aircraft superior to existing one, first and foremost, as far as its economic efficiency is concerned, he said. "Russia will pursue the national MS-21 project in any case, but if EADS decides to join the development, we can transform our project into a joint one," he said. Fyodorov said that it might take several months or even years to strike a deal on developing a new-generation aircraft with EADS. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
