AP/Tatan Syuflana The South Jakarta District Court has sentenced Mohamad Jibril to five years in jail for his alleged role in the suicide bombing attacks on the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in July last year. In its verdict read Wednesday, the court found that Jibril, also known as Muhammad Jibriel Abdul Rahman, alias Muhamad Ricky Ardhan, knew about the plan to bomb the hotels and had aided the bombers. Jibril was also found guilty of forging a passport. The prosecutors said in its indictment that Jibril helped Noordin M. Top's Jamaah Islamiyah, which is believed to be a regional arm of the al-Qaeda network, find donors to finance the bombing of the hotels. The judge's sentence immediately prompted protest from Jibril's supporters, who broke into a deafening chant of Allahu Akbar (Allah is great) and curses toward the judges and the prosecutors.
