What do you have when running /usr/sbin/print-service -q ?
To make sure you switch over to cups properly you should do
/usr/sbin/print-service -s cups
(logout and login again). The reason is that ospm-applet which is lp
based is still running.
Though with cups, you can't use the new OpenSolaris Print Manager as
that is only for lp.
