being as no one else has responded to this I will take a *guess* as to the reason ... To me it looks like your 'Java application' has generated a postscript (ps) print file which CUPS has then filters with 'pstops' and then 'foomatic-rip'; foomatic-rip has then invoked 'ghostscript' (gs) to convert it to what ever format the printer wants, but has failed because it thinks the ps it was feed was invalid. So my guess is either the 'Java application' is generating invalid ps or the 'pstops' filter has corrupted it in someway. Try getting the 'Java application' to print to a file then look at the generated ps and/or display it with ghost view. If thats okay try passing that file through 'pstops' and capture the output to file. Then look at that output. Hope that helps or someone else can help you.
