Yes, the client and server are the same box.  It's my understanding that 
filters can only be used on the print server.  Most of the printers print to 
our Novell print servers but a few need filtering.

I have not tried the gui.  The Sun boxes are servers and none have displays or 
keyboards.  I do have vnc configured.  But it's alot of work to use when a few 
cli commands should do the trick.

I did try pinging and telnet but both fail.  I beleive the firewall around the 
Sun servers is blocking ping but not telnet.

(PS.  The network guy installed new cabling to the HP4350 today (not related to 
my problem) and it is working.  Still can not ping but telnet does work.  I 
discovered the HP4000 is using a Linksys to connect to the network - perhaps 
that's part of the problem.)
