Well there is still a complication using my hp1018 on Solaris (Sparc snv_77). After a power cycle the printer firmware needs to be downloaded to the printer. On Linux you can just cat it to the right /dev/usb device. On Solaris the device does not show under /dev/printers (or in the /device tree) unless the firrmware has already been downloaded to the printer. This message posted from opensolaris.org
