Just wondering what approach is being taken by other hospitals in regards to notification of the media.  We have decided to discontinue the practice of printing admissions, discharges, etc. and had also ( or so I thought) agreed to discontinue releasing any information to the media in the form of condition reports.  (i.e. Treated, Admitted, Treated and Released, etc.)  There is concern in the organization that the media will give us a "hard time" about this since it is part of their news story.   My personal feeling ( and I apologize to anyone this may offend) is that the primary concern is protecting the patient privacy and what is in the best interest of the patient.  I don't particularly have concern with a "news story".  I prefer to take the approach of we are either going to inform the media or not---- across the board---- not give them one type of information vs. giving them another type of information......  Administratively, it makes more sense to me as well......
Please let me know how others are approaching this......
Thanks for any input/ opinion.
