Can I expand that question to include all group health plans?
Not just the self-funded ones?
I'm interested in knowing
the answer. There isn't a requirement that the group provide us (insurers
administering their plan) with certification, but if they don't supply the
certification, it limits the information we can share with the plan sponsor.

Certification
For those TPA's and insurers who administer a health plan for a self-funded group, are you requiring that the group provide you with a copy of their plan sponsor certification?
There has been considerable debate on this issue. There is no requirement in the Privacy Rules that a health plan provide a copy of their certification to their business associates, however, others feel it may be considered due diligence to require proof of compliance.
I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Thanks!
