I'm in a similar boat, and I've been considering two options: the echo indigo io (2 in, 2 out, cardbus, ~$150), and the maya 44 (4 in, 4 out, usb, ~$100). There are also the digigram vxpocket series( 2 or 4 channels, cardbus, $400+). I've read that the cards work well, while the maya reportedly *should* work (haven't found any first hand reports). I'm leaning towards the indigo IO myself. Whatever you end up with, I'd be interested in hearing how it works out for you, and I'll do the same.
