you need CarbonCopy Cloner for that.
[it's much more complex than just making a copy]
look at versiontracker.com
CarbonCopy Cloner uses apple script and as I understanbd it is written
by one of the Apple OSX developers.
probably best to back up to a drive - I don't think a CD willl do [I
put all the apps there too and copy it back if needed.].
