After installing a new 9.2.2 system folder onto another drive, the scanner worked fine. So...I concluded my system on my main drive must have gotten screwed-up.

After re-installing, dragging over extensions, prefs, etc... over to it, the scanner still would not work.
Starting only with base extensions didn't help either.

Short story: a had some display profiles in a folder, within the ColorSync folder. After placing them freely within Colorsync....all was well. It appears the program needs them at the base level.

Thanks for your help. You had me scared with the Ram/Hardrive problems; just finally got this machine stable once again.

It runs fine on 9,2,2 and 9,1. If you have problems of Type 1 and 2 you've
got some work ahead of you looking for memory mapping problems. Usually this
is physical so RAM, VRAM, or Hard disc. Otherwise it's disc directory or
data transfer problems such as termination in scsi chaines or drives.
