Here's my understanding of how the S2 treats large files: regardless of
whether you have chosen to shoot 6mpx or 12mpx files as the default, the S2
always interpolates up to 12mpx and then down to 6mpx.

If you save a 6mpx image as a TIFF and then interpolate that, the quality
won't be as good as if you had saved as a 12mpx RAW and then convert that to
a 16 bit TIFF. There are some comparison images on the Dpreview site under
reviews.

The problem is finding a good RAW converter on the Mac. Dpreview talks quite
scathingly about the RAW converter LE and not too glowingly of the full
version, for which you have to pay an extra 129 + VAT. I think everyone
agrees the full version should've been bundled with the camera and by now
they should've been able to include OS X versions for all the software.

BTW, can Image Capture in Jaguar be used to shoot in tethered mode? When I
connected the camera via the Firewire connection and setting the correct
function in the S2 menu, it couldn't find it. The Fuji software seems to
require you to boot into OS9 before you can install it. I haven't tried it
yet. How are people using OS X shooting in tethered mode?
