I don't mean they <print> white, I mean they become white. A flattened
file seems to always have white if there was transparency before. Do
you know a workaround so that the transparent areas are actually empty?
Often an Epson will run back and forth in white [empty] areas?
Transparent/white areas should not print with any tone of course.

of course not.
but then he did say his file was 254 254 254 when converted, I don't
think that's enough to give a tint though.
But, what the printer is receiving may not be 255 255 255 as a result
of the profile conversion inside the print driver.

me too
nothing should print
I think this is a OSX CMM Issue.
He didn't have it with 9 and the print driver conversion.
He doesn't have it with X and a Photoshop conversion.
I'm working on it.

I stand corrected, I meant misinformation.
I suppose <<well meaning>> disinformation> is a non sequitur.
I'm sure no-one does mis-inform intentionally.
