That profile was made by Thomas at Pixl after extensive tests I did here, to ascertain correct paper and driver settings for that paper and ink. I hope you got a pdf manual with the profile to tell you how to set up the Epson driver? if not mail me offlist and I'll try find the pdf manual to send to you. > The problem is that while the profile gives quite good colour, areas that > should be white in the print (white borders in the image, or transparent > areas in a photoshop document) come out with a slight blue(?) tone. Sounds like you may have the wrong printer driver settings or perhaps the printer is significantly different from the one I tested. That profile was made a while back, AFAIK 1290 has been updated recently - perhaps it's behaviour has changed? if so, of course, the profile no longer describes it's behaviour. That means it'll not work well at all. > > Lyson's own ICC profiles all do the same, and the only ones that > don't are Espons, or when the output is set to 'same as source' (i.e. > no profile) in photoshop. strange it does sound as if something IS pretty wacked. > > However, Lyson inks are radically different clours from the Epsons, > and so can't use one profile and the other ink. of course that's why you neeed a profile to get the best out of Lyson's ink and paper. It's frustrating I know -= but since the right setup and a good profile for the right paper can give amazing results on the 1290 it's a sound investment. Otherwise stick to Epson's inks. > > Is this a problem with other users of the same gear? I hope so too. perhaps IF a custom profile is needed - you might consider the suggstion that the price for a really nice profile is a relatively small one for the releif offered from wasted time and paper stock used in multiple testing. With a good profile you should get a good match from profiled monitor screen to print, thus removing the need for all those testprints. There are many very happy pixl profile users on this list. I hope they'll pipe up to tell you it's worth it. for a bit more info - why not control, or right click to go to : http://www.neilbarstow.com/ink_paper.html look at the paragraph under <Using Epson Inkjet printers with non-driver listed or 3rd Party papers or 3rd party inks:> and http://www.neilbarstow.com/ink_lyson.html> hope it helps Regards NeilB - - - - Consulting in Imaging & Colour Management - - - - custom scanner and printer profiles, training on Trident & Imacon Scanning - - - - - we supply Gretag and eyeOne, also XRite & OptiCal - - - - - - p:44 (0)1273 774704 m:44 (0)7778 160201 http://www.neilbarstow.co.uk/ http://www.apple.com/uk/creative/neilbarstow/ =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
