I'm not sure I can understand where you are going in the earlier part

Nor can I gather why you get a wierd image on screen after conversion
in PS6, I thought that was a ps 5 <feature>.
What profile are you using in this conversion?

I think the S of 1290S means the printer is different from the one we
profiled, further evidenced by the fact that the profile does not suit
the printer.

You are not the only new 1290 owner who has seen this. If the printer is
diffferent it explains why the <generic> profile we made does not work.
