Oops - might have been 13mm and 40 years old

also - perhaps 20 years ago prototypes (I believe) were made for 'single
element' flat glass lenses which would exhibit virtually none of the
abberations we know and love

it was carefully blasted with radioactivity which changed the refractive
index in a measured way across the diameter of the element and this in
turn bent the light differently which ever part of the glass it was
passing through. One element meant virtually no flare for example

only trouble was that the glass remained radioactive and that fogged the
film

nowadays, with ccd's etc perhaps we dont have to worry about that - -
and since photographers are so keen, the marketing folk may figure that
perhaps they wont mind shortening their lives for the sake of being
ready to get that great photo (if it ever comes their way, of course)
