As an aside - I'm dumb-founded by the look of OSX. It looks like something AOL asked Apple to build for 4th grade puppy school...
Sounds like a stage one. Don't worry, stage two is only about a week and a half away :-)
I can't believe I'm going to have to work with this visual absurdity and file system rigidity from now on.
Actually, the file system isn't very rigid. Or rather, it is, but only the bits of it you'll never see, that have nothing to do with the User. The only thing you can run into trouble with is Apple applications that came with OS X that are installed anywhere but the Applications folder. They're put there automatically, so unless you move 'em there's nothing much to worry about. And anyway, keeping applications in a folder called 'Applications' could be a pretty neat idea...
You can keep documents wherever you like pretty well. Oh and incidentally, you can even run an application that's in the Trash! Yeah, I know: 'We asked and Apple listened'. Not. :-)
OS X is really very much like OS 9 in most respects. You still double-click a folder to open it, you still drag items to move them, option-drag to copy etc. You don't have to see any of the (useful!) icons in the top bar of every folder window ever again if you don't want them; just turn them off. You can set folder-opening behaviour to be *exactly* as it was in OS 9 if you want, with each folder opening in a new window. On the other hand, if you open two Finder windows in 'Column view', one above the other, you can see just about every destination there is on your disk. You'll grow to love it :-)
All this to avoid a few restarts and a bit of multitasking/threading ! Give me a break !
That's a bit like saying 'All this, just to avoid the Crown Jewels'...
PC's never looked so good.
True enough. The links below might be a help if you get into trouble:

PS - Feel free to mail me off-list, about any help you need with OSX. I can't promise a fast response, but I'll do my best to help.
...and the same goes for me; I haven't had a great deal of trouble-shooting experience because I've not had any trouble, but I'll be glad to help if I can.
