I had frustrating reliability problems with Home Highway - dropped lines, audible noise, slow speeds etc. The difficulty is that BT say they can find faults by checking your line remotely (they can't always) and repair them by doing a "reset" (it seemed to make things worse). In the end they couldn't find a fault, they just knew it wasn't working properly, but when they replaced the box on my wall, all was fine. Of course in the meantime I had wasted ages checking my TA, software, computer etc.
I would recommend you to load the software and get it working while the engineer is still there.
