not sure anything about your camera or the software

it could relate to my experience with my leafscan 45 scanning 'raw' in
that

scanning raw means just that - no adjustments to the sensitivity of the
ccd

...that means that very few trannys and no negs have anywhere near the
range of brightness that the scanner can record. ....this is a true 16
bit scan and I doubt that the DIX records so high

....all the same, it, I expect is at least a real 14 bit which means
that it contains a lot more greyscale data than your final image will .

in the case of the leaf - if, for example, the range of a neg is 1/15th
of the range of the scanner - all those tones will occupy a small chunk
equal to 1/15 of the range from pure black to white.

1/15 of a full greyscale is a very small range of brightness and this
scanned image ( before adjustment) appears almost pure black when
openned in PS

adjustments in PS bring up the limited negs brightness to match the
black on the neg being black and the white being white (I am throwing
away all the shades that my scanner could have recorded though that is
no biggie, because these did not exist and therefore contained no data
whatsoever from the neg).

because the image is 16 bit at that stage, this dramatic adjustment does
not hurt the remaining image which 'still' has many more than 16million
colors/shades (1/15th of 16 bits is many more than.

what you may be experiencing is the same stuff - albeit that your image
occupied more than 1/15th of the range and therefore is not seen as so
dark when you open in PS

if you are really recording real unadjusted 'raw', and you dont want to
adjust further in PS then what I guess you want to do is simply stop
what you are doing - 'dont save raw' - find or pay for some profile
that you use in camera to save a 'corrected file'

this may be only part of what happens as 'raw' format (for all I know)
not really be raw

everyone - excuse my usual failure to exercise communication skills

hope that helps a bit all the same
