Hi Paul, 'fraid I can't speak for the D30 - but when shooting with the D60 I've certainly found that the 'flash' colour balance setting gives results that are too yellow for my tastes - I've found the 'daylight' setting to be the most neutral with my Bowens & Metz flash gear. Failing that it'd make sense for them to try the 'custom white balance'.
