Dear List,
I'm in a tight spot and would appreciate advice : I shot a commission for a
client on a D100. Before the shoot the client briefed me that the final
image size to be used was "postage stamp", so I shot in high quality jpeg
mode to speed up the writing file to disk speed. At that size I reckoned any
jpeg artifacting would be lost in the final repro.

BIG BUT : After the shoot the clients client changed the design specs and
wishes to use one of the shots full bleed (520mm X 260mm) cropping into the
original 2000 x 3000 pixel file in the process. They are effectively asking
me to multiply the length of the file by approx. 2.5 to 3 times its original
spec (@300dpi)
To complicate matters a little further I had to shoot these photos at 800ASA
as it was a "reportage" type situation... So its a noisy file to start with,
and the jpeg artifacting is compounding the noise. After using an early
version of Fred Miranda's Stair Interpolation the whole thing looks pretty
messy...
The only good news I can see, is that the client is printing the image as a
"high keyline faded into the background" inside cover, which I hope will
help disguise certain... 'technical challenges'. But I'm far from happy with
the situation....

Any suggestions as to the best way to interpolate up in these circumstances
would be most appreciated.

many thanks,
David
