Hi Y'all.

Has anybody else picked up on the intriguing announcement at the recent
European Digital Production show held in Seville?

Apparently there is yet another camera company entering the fray with a
'one box ' solution for digital capture. , but this one is using yet more
cutting edge technology based around specialist lens design and chip
architecture.

The lenses are to be manufactured in a way that mimics those seemingly
impossible bi-focal contact lenses that are available from all opticians
now.

With the contact lenses , the lens is constructed with a series
microscopic concentric circular fresnel lenses. Each alternate ring
represents one focal length, and by a slight adjustment of the eyes focus
, you can get either near sight or far sight correction.

The as yet unnamed manufacturers claim to have produced a lens that
expands on this technology using fractal algorithm design . Combined with
some exceedingly complex capture software , this enables an image to be
captured at several different focal lengths at the same time.

This means that we are now one step closer to that holy grail of the
advertising photographer. We can shoot once and provide our art directors
with an with a series of images with not only several different film
curves and colour balances applied , but also with several different
perspectives. Just think , if you bought several of these devices , you
could also shoot from different angles simultaneaously.

I'm thinking of doing just that in order to deal with the "can we try it
both ways " type of commission.

I'm also keen to invest in the promised plug ins. There is one , for
instance, that enables post capture selective focus. One of its key
features is random minimum focusing, which should make it ideal for food
photography.

Other plug ins include camera shake/blur for lifestyle , super glossy
colour +sharp focus ( to be named 'Silk Purse') for advertising ,and
random crop for fashion. that darkens the exposure in the corners of the
frame for car photography.

BTW, the new technology goes by the name of Fractally Adjustable Unified
Lens Technology.

However all of the camera manufacturers I've contacted so far say that
it's not their F.A.U.L.T.

Regards

Bob Marchant.
