Al,

One of the main selling points of the 2200, 7600 and the 9600 is the Ultrachrome inks. Nobody else supplies this type of pig/dye hybrid ink, the main advantage being its longevity and reduced metamerism in comparison to purely dye and pigment respectively.

I have read about some company doing a CIS system for the 2200 using the cartridges from the 9600 to fill the bottles, I would have to take a closer look at the cost saving involved to make a decision on its viability, but this is the only CIS for Ultrachrome inks.

Any other CIS solution will be 6 colours max of either dye or pigment and would produce the exact same results in a much cheaper 1290 as it would in your 2200. Personally I would keep the 2200 for Ultrachrome inks only and get a 1290 or Canon i9000 to utilize whatever CIS you want to use.

If its great B&W pints your after, I'd definitely stick with the 2200 and Ultrachome inks, or get an 1160 and install a 'quad black' or 'small gamut' inkset from Lyson. HTH.
