The printer should be off for this to work, leaving it on seems to be one of the best ways to cause head blockages - so much so I find it strange that Epson don't stress this to users. Incidentally, I have been told that the machine must be switched off on the printer NOT at the mains supply for the heads to be sealed correctly (which makes sense, and it's what I have always done, but I still have problems with blocked nozzles, so who knows?).
