It can work ( with some degradation ) on squared up subjects . However it 
can go  somewhat pear shaped on cylindrical ones and becomes rather more 
complex where two or more surfaces of the same object are involved. 

As a disclaimer to the above the "intensive research" involved was 
carried out using Guinness cans and not buildings , so mileage may vary 
:-)
