Hi I hope any 1ds users could give me their opinion on this question,

I am finding that my camera is giving about a stop less exposure than I
would expect.

If I shoot a grey card (spot metered manual) or white wall (as per auto
exposure) the histogram shows an exposure not as mid grey but a stop less
(maybe -2/3rd ) I spoke to canon about this and the tech guy implied that
they had had many people calling about this and that the camera was set up
this way so as not to overexpose / blow out high lights.

The problem is that I am having to relearn exposures basically, I shoot
documentary / reportage style most of the time and so would on the go meter
from a mid grey patch of grass or wall or back of hand etc, now I find I am
having to calculate my exposures and then add + 2/3 - 1 stop, which seems
crazy if it is mid grey it should be mid grey not grey + a stop.

If this is the way that the camera is for everyone else I would be grateful
to know that it is not something wrong with my set up / camera.

Thanks inn advance

Stephen
