I would have thought that using a partition on your primary hard drive  PC or MAC is 
not
the best way forward
The scratch disks are need to be separate  units to perform effectively as the heads in
the drive have to dodge between partitions in order to write and read losing time in 
the
process.
On  dedicated scratch discs this does not occur.
