Greetings,

Francis Newman mentioned being interested in seeing comments earlier (I changed the
subject heading) on Panther. My colleague and I have been running tests since Friday
- both
at home and the office. Here are my observations so far:

1. It's now running on 7 systems consisting of: 2 G5's; 1 G4 iMac; 2 G4 titanium
powerbooks;
1 G4 silver tower (upgraded with a Powerlogix 1.2 Ghz CPU); and my *beloved* G4 Cube
(also running the Powerlogix 1.2 Ghz CPU). So far...all is well.

2. Haven't noticed any conflicts other than a few hot keys (Lightwave, in
particular). Easily
changed in preferences.

3. Some preferences, like the clock, the start page in Safari, and a few others fell
victim to a
Panther over-ride. Resetting preferences solved that.

4. Have not noticed any problems with major apps like PS, MS Office, Keynote,
Freehand,
Mailsmith etc. Both the office Fuji S2 and my Canon 10D cameras connect with no
glitches.

5. Roxio Toast 5.2 works OK with Panther, but I have one computer with Toast 5.1 and
it
doesn't run.

6. Epson 1280, Canon i950 and i9100 printers all working fine.

7. The new folder interface, which I see as the biggest visible change so far, is
pretty nifty. I
like being able to easily access other main folders and drives from within any folder.

8. Lots more folder and file "view" options, however, that take some time to adjust.

9. The "Expose" feature is cool, but I doubt I'll ever use it much.

10. I have noticed a slight access speed increase on just about all the computers.

11. Do yourself a favor and perform the *custom installation* instead of the *easy
install*.
You can save a few hundred MB's on your hard drive by not installing the languages
you'll
never use and the printer drivers for printers you'll never own.

12. Mac still beats the hell out of anything made by Microsoft. :-)

I'm interested in hearing other members' observations.

Regards,
Ben
