Found it difficult to understand, until I added PTgui, which acts as a front
end for Pano Tools.
PTGui has a very easy to use interface.

Good comments to which I'd add PTAssembler (very similar to PTGui) at

and on the Mac side, PTMac is similar to the above products. Find it at

PTMac works quite well but is a little more dependent on you being familiar with optimizing strategy for PanoTools. PTAssembler has an "auto" optimize button that works just fine for most basic panorama setups which helps a novice to learn the process. After doing a number of panoramas on PTAssembler and better learning the process, I can now go back and get good results out of PTMac.
