Hi Steve , sorry to be forever the pedant , but ease of use and
portability don't always overide ultimate image quality. I agree
entirely that pressure of time , physical limitations etc and even
budgetary constraints may lead to the choice of a more portable solution
.Sometimes however , ultimate image quality is the goal and can't be
compromised even if the circumstances are demanding.

We've just come back from location on and around Capri shooting a
'superyacht'. Took the Sinar 54 , Sinar 23 , a shedload of kit (and a D10
BTW...belt,braces and another pair of braces). We did consider buying a
D1S for the shoot ,and as fine a camera as it is, the dictates of the
job were ultimately too demanding .

As always , it's horses for courses , and a matter of 'just good enough '
or 'good for everything'.

As a matter of interest , we learnt quite a lot on this job.

First thing is that Sinar 54 backs don't bounce very well . Second is
that not all helicopter pilots can hover , let alone fly backwards. Third
is that the popper studs on some combats are surprisingly weak when hit
by rotor downdraught. Also found out that credit cards and Euros fly
surprisingly well when fan assisted , mostly in the direction of the
ocean.

Got some great snaps though !

Regards,

Bob Marchant.
