Your analysis coincides with my own initial impression: Nikon Capture 3.5, with its ability to use the camera settings when processing NEF files, produces beautiful high res JPEGS with no colour management skills on my part. Even allowing for the poor colour I am getting from Phase 1 (because I have not/cannot set it up properly), the image quality of the developed image does not seem to be any better than the Nikon offering. I will look at Nikon View. Is it possible to rotate and crop raw files before processing in Capture 3.5 i.e. to emulate the excellent Phase 1 workflow? Thanks also for the tip re CS (which I have just installed) and its ability to handle RAW files well. Thanks again for this feedback.
