Seasons greetings to all!
I've been using this period to do a little house keeping and archiving
- in doing so, I came across an image I made 2 weeks ago with around
10 others from the same session. It is a scan of a b/w neg and it has
a black line running across the entire width. When viewed at around
800% you can see that it is exactly 6 pixels wide and it is almost as
if a line of information has disappeared! The line was definitely not
there when I scanned it as I spent a while playing with the tone and I
would have noticed, even this time of year!
The other images made at the same time are absolutely fine. Any
suggestions?

It is odd that it appeared after you scanned and color corrected.
That leads me to believe that it was a disk error upon saving.
Which file format was it saved as?
A couple of more questions... what type of storage device were the
images saved on? A standard computer hard drive? Whichever device
it is, I would recommend running standard drive diagnostics to see
if there is something physically wrong with the drive. It is a
remote possibility, but it never hurts to check.
Also, if the image was saved in CMYK mode, it is possible that only
one channel was corrupted... ideally the black. You might be able
to recover most of the data if the other process colors are fine.
Look at each channel individually to see if there are any
differences.
Lastly, it doesn't hurt to check the scanner. I once noticed a
similar effect (but from scanning) because the drum scanner needed
standard maintenance cleaning.
