Hi

The first version of Gimp-print 5 is now available (alpha as yet so be
careful!)

The capabilities look to be much enhanced over V4.2 (which is pretty good)
<http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3#5.0.0-alpha1> especially in
producing higher quality prints.

I'm looking to get a 9600 in the near future and was wondering to what
extent it might remove the need for a (none too cheap) RIP? ... especially
since the printer will be for photo use. I've been looking at the excellent
QuadtoneRIP <http://www.harrington.com/QuadToneRIP.html> for the B/W side of
my printing, which is similarly based.

What does the list's colour management/printing expertise make of all the
new features? Something to worry the RIP vendors? :-)

bye for now

Keith Cooper
