I have to agree with Francis about not turning off his printer. I have (still!) a 1270 with cartridges and it is never switched off. I sometimes do not print anything with it for days, and have never had a problem with it when I come to use it. Its been on ever since I bought it, way back, when Camelot were just off Hampstead Road.

Apart from the occasional clean and a squirt or two from an air duster it just sits there patiently waiting for something to do. Nice, really.

The printer needs to be turned off when not in use,I had a similar problem on a 1270.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I have an 1160 and a 1290. The 1160 is on a CIS and the 1290 on cartridges. As I explained in an earlier post, the 1160 (on the CIS) is raised approx 2cm above the base level of the ink bottles.

Both printers are on all the time - as is my G4 (running Panther). As long as I make sure I use each printer every couple of days, I have no problems.
