I've used a Coolscan 4000 ED for several years with complete satisfaction. The specifications were recently upgraded with the introduction of the 5000ED which I reviewed for the BJP. However, since you mention "bang for the buck" the Minolta (which I know only by repute) would still be attractive - around something like #400 compared with about #800 for the 5000ED. Of course if you want to treat yourself the multi-size 9000ED will only set you back about #2,500! I can't offer you my 4000ED - it will do me for a while yet.
