If Adobe RGB is assigned to an sRGB file it's going to look awfully
saturated, but why would anyone assign the wrong colour space like
that?
OH but they do! Believe me.

I deal with calls about it almost daily. Usually where they are printing
themselves rather than at a lab using inkjet or thermal. Usually they are
complaining about the skin tones being waxy or suchlike.
Most often people have absolutely no idea about colour space or settings
and rely on PS defaults etc. Then they try to work in Adobe1998 from their
sRGB jpeg and convert that (probably unwittingly) to 98 . Then they output
that file to the prionter which really wants sRGB then they phone me
complaining of pocolour and skin tones!
