Just another thought,
What about sharpening only the lightness channel in LAB - does the same loss of quality result from that process as the blurring of the a and b channels?

Amanda and Neil,

What about working with the blending modes? (i.e. copy the layer, set the BM in luminosity, and then blur the layer underneath (3 up to 7)? It seems do do good job on screen.
Does this convert to LAB and forth to RGB?
I had been told PS is working in the background in LAB mode, is this true? Does this affect quality?

Using ColourThink it appears that the colour space of the 1Ds (the one that came with C1) is wider than CIE Lab (mostly UV light), in other words the camera "see" more colours than the average human, does it make sense to convert to LAB from RAW and then go to RGB? or TIF RGB :-)

I hope this had not been already covered. Thanks for your insight.
