Hello ProDiggers!
I will be on duty for this week, ready to assist you in case of doubts regarding the list.
As List Owner Ed Horwich submitted an important notice on Sunday, and given the relevant content of this message, please read below a review of the most important aspects of this message, as it deals with many coming (and expected) changes and improvements of ProDig on behalf of all it's users:
I want to start by saying that, on behalf of List owner and all list Mums, we appreciate the listees who reported the presence of spammers in the ANNEX section of the ProDig, and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to some.
-The Annex was definitely spotted as a weak area of the forum by some "smartass"( pardon the french) who may have used this weakness to harvest e-mail addresses and the like. The Annex has been fully inactivated, until a new platform is set to replace it.
-The list is going to be upgraded to a new Server and new forum Software by January 2005.
-The forum service will be free of charge as it has always been.
-THe new system already includes faster delivery and improved protection for messages, single messages and daily Digest delivery, auto detection of HTML messages, etc. and other features that will enhance the Prodig experience.
- After many comments by users and a general consensus on this, the ProDig Archives will remain available ONLY to members of the list, and will not be publicly open and available, as it has been in the past.
We intend to provide some level of privacy/protection with this , but again, read Ed's detailed message as to how and why is most web content made available to the search engines, to understand we can not fully block the info stored in this ( and any other) forum.
-This move to an improved system will be accompanied of improved Guidelines too. We will keep you posted about all this, but just expect a seamless and smooth change by next year, and we hope you can all benefit from this.
- For those interested in numbers, here is a historical recollection of ProDig's membership
Total subscribers
Dec 2002 - 926 Dec 2003 - 1137 Nov 2004 - 1279
TODAY - 1294
This includes both listees registered in Single Message Mode and listees registered in Digest mode and does not include people who have voluntarily unsubscribed. We expect a steady growth of our membership and we are ready and prepared to receive and welcome it.
As this is my last stint as list mum for this year 2004, I take the opportunity to wish all of you Prodigers a great and well deserved holidays and a Happy New Year 2005!! ( Please note there is no religious string attached)
Best Regards to all
